Client: Robert Bosch GmbH / Keenfinity GmbH
Sector: Security Systems (Business unit sold during the project)
The Challenge
Robert Bosch GmbH needed a modern, user-friendly application for their customers to plan the layout of security systems — particularly the placement of surveillance cameras. The existing process relied on a fragmented set of tools that were difficult to use, hard to maintain, and did not provide a seamless experience.
Bosch’s internal roadmap projected a 12+ month development timeline for a new integrated platform.
Our Solution
CodeLax IT partnered with Bosch to redesign their fragmented toolchain into a modern, unified web application built on React and Node.js. The goal was to streamline the complex process of security system planning — particularly surveillance camera placement — into a smooth, intuitive experience for end users.
We began by working closely with stakeholders to understand the core pain points and user needs. Rather than replicate the legacy functionality, we focused on delivering a cleaner, more intelligent solution that brought clarity to a previously cumbersome process.
Key aspects of the solution included:
-
Smart Camera Planning Interface
A drag-and-drop interface that enables users to place and configure cameras on interactive building plans or maps. The system intelligently calculates and visualizes the field of view (FOV) for each camera, requiring a rework of complex trigonometric and spatial calculations to accurately simulate real-world angles and coverage. -
Scalability & Performance Optimization
The application was engineered to handle large-scale projects with 100+ cameras, ensuring smooth performance even under heavy computational and rendering loads. This required careful front-end optimization, spatial data structures, and efficient rendering logic. -
Real-Time Visual Feedback
Users get immediate feedback on coverage gaps, overlaps, and blind spots, enhancing planning accuracy and confidence. This was achieved through dynamic FOV overlays and real-time updates tied to camera adjustments. -
Agile Development & Rapid MVP Delivery
By focusing on high-impact features and cutting non-essential complexity, we released a fully operational MVP within just 3 months — a dramatic acceleration compared to Bosch’s internal 12-month estimate. -
CI/CD Pipeline & Deployment Automation
We established a modern DevOps pipeline to support automated testing, continuous integration, and one-click deployment, ensuring smooth, fast, and reliable delivery of updates. -
Hosting & Infrastructure
Codelax provided and managed the entire hosting environment, including cloud infrastructure, monitoring, and security — giving Bosch a one-stop shop for the complete product lifecycle. -
Ongoing Collaboration & Feature Delivery
Even after the initial MVP, we continued to collaborate in agile sprints, iterating based on real user feedback and delivering new features and enhancements in a flexible, adaptive way.
Despite internal changes, including the sale of the business unit mid-project, the work continued without disruption. Our lean, expert team ensured delivery stayed on track, adapting quickly while maintaining a strong focus on quality and usability.
